Photophobia Treatment

DR WILLIAM BOOTHEDefined as "a persistent, abnormal, and unwarranted fear of light", each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress. The discomfort of light sensitivity can be reduced by avoiding sunlight, closing the eyes, wearing dark glasses, or darkening the room. However, the cause for the light sensitivity should be determined, since proper treatment may cure the problem. Seek urgent medical attention if pain is moderate to severe in low-light conditions.

The treatments and management of different types of migraines consist of many precipitating factors such as food avoidances, hormonal changes, hunger, and stress. By lying down in a quiet, darkened room and using either prescribed pharmaceutical treatments or homeopathic treatments relief from pain and other symptoms of migraine should be obtained.

Pinguecula

DR WILLIAM BOOTHE

A pinguecula is a type of conjunctival degeneration in the eye. It is extremely common and is seen as a yellow-white deposit on the conjunctiva adjacent to the limbus (the junction between the cornea and sclera). It is to be distinguished from pterygium clinically, which is a wedge shaped area of fibrosis, that appears to grow into the corne. There is no known method of preventing a pinguecula or pterygium. However, a prudent precaution is to protect the eye from undue sun exposure by wearing protective eyewear with good ultraviolet blockage, or at least a rimmed hat. Fortunately, most cases of pinguecula or pterygium do not constitute worrisome eye disease, and surgery usually is not necessary.
