Photophobia Symptoms
and Signs

A common symptom, photophobia is an abnormal sensitivity to light. In many patients, photophobia simply indicates increased eye sensitivity without any underlying pathology. For example, it can stem from excessive wearing of contact lenses or use of poorly fitted lenses. However, in others, this symptom can result from a systemic disorder, an ocular disorder or trauma, or the use of certain drugs.

What Causes Photophobia?

DR WILLIAM BOOTHEOcular migraines are usually treated by allowing the patient to rest in a quiet, darkened room until the pain passes. Patients who suffer from frequent ocular migraine headaches should consult with their physicians to see if, working together, they can identify and therefore eliminate the cause of the ocular migraine headache.Ocular migraines usually do not need treatment as they usually go away after a short while. However, ocular migraines can be frustrating to those who suffer from them. Thus, it is a good idea to learn how to cope with ocular migraines once they are happening.
